Finding strategic locations for informed urban planning
The Suitability Tool (ST) is a web-based urban planning tool that identifies optimal locations for specific activities within a city.
.
The Suitability Tool has three main functions
1 | Data integration
Compiles geolocated environmental, social, and urban information from local sources and international databases.
2 | Spatial Evaluation
Processes data using flexible and customizable methods to generate geo-located suitability scores associated with specific policy objectives.
3 | Consensus-building
Allows fast spatial visualization of possible outcomes to inform policy-making and support fact-based consensus among stakeholders.
How it works?
Land Suitability assessment in three steps
Select layers
Users can select layers included in the Suitability index to be aligned with specific policy objectives. As layers get selected, the Suitability Map automatically reflects the changes in the Index scores.
Activate filters
Users can activate filters to exclude certain areas within the administrative boundaries or with certain characteristics (e.g. exposure to hazards or slums).
Assign weights to each layer
The weight defines the importance of a layer in the calculation of the Suitability index. Each layer can be given a weight that allows it to be prioritized over others.
The Suitability Map translates the Suitability Index scores into a colored subdistrict map.
Subdistricts with the lowest suitability scores are colored dark red and those with the highest scores are colored dark blue.
Scores in between the minimum and maximum values are assigned red, orange, yellow, green, and blue tones according to the color scale.
The interactive map allows the user to change the basemap and creating subsets of urban areas to isolate or focus on key targets.
